Market Research

Where can I get general information about doing business in another country?

Two good places to start are the Internet and your local library. A federal depository library will have numerous government publications on international subjects. To find the nearest federal depository library, call 800-872-8723 or access the Internet at www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/dpos/adpos003.html.

Which countries are the best markets for my products?

To determine potential markets abroad, consult U.S. export statistics, which will show where product types and quantities have been exported as well as market trends. The National Trade Data Bank (NTDB) also contains industry analysis reports and country marketing plans that describe potential markets in much more detail.

Where do I find information on regulations and incentives to set up an office in a foreign country?

Contact the embassies or consulates in the U.S. for your targeted countries, the appropriate international chambers of commerce in the U.S., or American chambers of commerce abroad. Several countries have economic development offices in the U.S. and their sole function is to recruit U.S. companies to their country.
