Arizona Appliance Rebate Program
Round 2 Update
Arizonans Asked, We Listened

A new, simpler Arizona Appliance Rebate program began July 1 and continue until $3.2 million funds are depleted. This second round is designed around the feedback and requests from many Arizonans following the first program which launched in April.

No reservations will be required with the new program. Arizonans will be able to check
www.ArizonaRebates.com
for available funds, then make a purchase of a qualified appliance, and then complete their application online to print and mail in for the rebate.

The new appliances covered in this second round include Energy Star rated refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, and solar hot water heaters.  Only one purchase per category is allowed.

The $6.2 million Arizona's Appliance Rebate Program launched with high demand
at 6:00 a.m. on April 12, 2010. Website and telephone line volume quickly
exceeded capacity, causing slow uploads of web pages and busy signals on the phone,
however, Arizona’s rebate site did not “crash” as seen with some other states' programs.

The available rebates could not meet the demand for this program.
Congratulations to the successful few who were able to secure a rebate reservation,
and thanks to all Arizonans who tried patiently between 6:00 – 9:40 a.m.

Dishwashers – Rebates and waiting list closed at 7:41 a.m.
Water Heaters – Rebates and waiting list closed at 8:32 a.m.
Clothes Washers – Rebates closed at 9:40 a.m., the wait list has closed as of June 1st.

Over 30,000 rebates were successfully reserved.

We appreciate your time and effort to participate in Arizona Appliance Rebate Program.

On Monday, December 14, 2009 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) gave final approval to award $6.2 million to the Arizona Department of Commerce Energy Office to implement Arizona’s Appliance Rebate Program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The program has one key objective: help individual consumers replace old and inefficient appliances with new Energy Star appliances that are generally 15%-50% more energy efficient than appliances that are not Energy Star qualified.

GLOSSARY

MEF - Modified Energy Factor: a measure of energy efficiency that considers the energy used by the washer, the energy used to heat the water, and the energy used to run the dryer. The higher the MEF, the more energy efficient the clothes washer.

WF - Water Factor: measures water efficiency in gallons of water consumed per cubic foot of capacity. The lower the WF, the more water efficient the clothes washer.

kWh - Kilowatt Hour: a unit of energy equal to 3.6 megajoules. The most common use of the unit is when energy is delivered by electric utilities to consumers.

EF - Energy Factor: the ratio of useful energy output from the water heater to the total amount of energy delivered to the water heater. EF is a metric used to compare relative efficiencies of water heaters. The higher the EF is, the more efficient the water heater. EF is determined by the DOE test procedure, Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Section 430.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

NEW! Question
My Solar Water Heater doesn’t have a Yellow Appliance Energy Guide to send in with my application.  What do I do?
Answer
Solar Water Heaters do not have a Yellow Appliance Energy Guide that can be mailed in with applications. This requirement is no longer needed for the Solar Water Heater category ONLY. Solar Water Heater applications may be submitted with ONLY the Rebate Confirmation Page and a copy of the purchase receipt/invoice.

Question
Now that I've mailed in my rebate request, how can I check the status?
Answer
You can visit
www.ArizonaRebates.com under the Status tab and type in your information to check on the status of your claim.

Question
I misplaced my form! How can I get my ID number so that I can reprint my form?
Answer
Ooops! We know this can happen and still want you to participate. Please call 1-877-799-5032 Monday through Friday between 6:00AM and 5:00PM and provide the operator the name and address of your original submission. The operator will look up your name and provide you with your ID number so that you can reprint your form at the reservation website

Question
I received a reservation. Now what?
Answer
Congratulations! Now that you have a reservation, you have until June 1st to make your purchase of your Energy Star or more efficient appliance at any Arizona retailer or through an Arizona contractor, and mail in your documentation.

Question
What do I need to mail in with my rebate request?
Answer
You need to mail in your filled in Confirmation Page, a copy of your receipt, and a copy of your yellow Appliance Energy Guide. Mail to the address shown on your Confirmation Page.

Question
I received a reservation in more than one appliance category. Can I mail them in the same envelope?
Answer
No. Separate reservations need to be made for each appliance category and will have unique ID numbers. Separate Confirmation Pages need to be filled in for each category, and mailed in separate envelopes.

Question
What do I do if I am on the Waiting List?
Answer
Congratulations! If you received an application for the waiting list, your rebate request will be fulfilled on a first-come first-served basis in the order your application is received and processed. As funds become available from unclaimed rebate reservations, or disqualified rebate reservations, funds will then be turned over to the waiting list applicants that have had their applications processed. ( View Press Releases 4-22 and 5-13 )

Question
I would like to buy the Gas Storage Water Heater EF>=0.67 that qualifies for this program, but I am having trouble locating them. Where can I buy one?
Answer
This technology is new to the market and therefore they are limited in supply. There are 48 models available in this category. The list is organized alphabetically by manufacturer. The products can be ordered through plumbers and plumbing supply companies. In some cases, your local retailer may be able to make a special order for you. Also keep in mind, if you have a Water Heater reservation or wait list reservation, you may purchase any of the water heaters listed in the table: Electric Heat Pump Water Heater, Gas Storage Water Heater, or Gas Tankless Water Heater.

Question
Why is Arizona's appliance rebate program starting in April?
Answer
Arizona and the majority of other states will begin the appliance rebate program in April. Most of those states that have already begun their rebate programs had a similar program in place prior to the Recovery Act. Click
here to view when other states are beginning their appliance rebate program.

Question
Why is Arizona only providing rebates for clothes washers, dish washers and water heaters?
Answer
Appliances were selected with Arizona in mind. These appliances will not only save energy, but will also reduce water use and that’s a great combination of savings for those of us who live in the arid southwest.

Question
Why aren't clothes dryers included in the Appliance Rebate Program?
Answer
All appliances included in the Appliance Rebate Program must be Energy Star certified. Energy Star does not label any model of clothes dyers because most dryers use similar amounts of energy, which means there is little difference in the energy use between models.
Click
here for more information from Energy Star.

Question
Why aren't electric storage tank and electric tankless water heaters able to earn the ENERGY STAR label and are thus ineligible for the Appliance Rebate?
Answer (
link to more Energy Star information )
Both electric storage tank and tankless water heaters cannot earn the ENERGY STAR label because they have limited energy savings potential. The most efficient electric storage tank water heaters on the market have an Energy Factor of 0.95, which represents 4.8% savings over the minimum federal standard (Energy Factor = 0.904). Electric tankless water heaters fare only slightly better. The best performing electric tankless water heaters have an Energy Factors of 0.99, which represents a savings of 8.7% in comparison to the Federal Standard (Energy Factor = 0.904).

This technology has little to no room for improvement. The perfect electric (storage tank or tankless) water heater could not exceed an Energy Factor of 1.0 due to this technology's physical limitations.
