Governor Janet Napolitano unveiled a new private-public-nonprofit collaboration geared toward streamlining, unifying and enhancing Arizona’s economic development efforts. Rather than competing with one another, Arizona companies will work together to ensure Arizona’s position in the global marketplace.

The Arizona Department of Commerce and the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) will hold the 2008 Governor’s Rural and Regional Development Conference (RRDC), jointly hosted by the towns of Carefree and Cave Creek, on September 24-26, 2008. The Carefree Resort will be the conference site.
Two distinguished awards are presented at the conference: the Governor’s Excellence Awards recognize community and tribal projects that show partnership, leadership and innovation; the Arizona Main Street awards honor outstanding foundation building where work to preserve historic structures and heritage occurs while improving the economic vitality of these downtown corridors.

As part of an effort to encourage women-owned businesses to become successful, Gov. Napolitano delivered a keynote address at the "Make Mine a Million" Business event this spring. "Make Mine a Million" is a program of Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence.

The Legal Arizona Workers Act, sometimes called the "Employer Sanctions Law," went into effect on January 1, 2008. The Attorney General's website provides basic information about the new law. Access it here.
The "E-Verify" Program, administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), allows employers to verify newly hired employees. It is an internet-based system available in all 50 states, and is free to employers. It provides an automated link to Social Security Administration database and immigration records.

The Guide has been produced by the Commerce and Economic Development Commission, the Arizona Department of Commerce, more than 15 state and federal agencies and private investment banks as an implementation tool for Communities and Businesses. It contains descriptions and contact information for federal, state, and many private loan, grant and financing programs related to community, economic and workforce development and planning.
The Arizona State Funding Calendar includes the expected dates of opening, closing and award of the various grants, loans and other competitive funding programs from state agencies for the year.
