Governor Doug Ducey announced $7 million to expand available rental assistance through the Arizona Department of Housing's Rental Eviction Assistance Program and the Rental Property Owner Preservation Fund.
Governor Ducey signed an executive order extending an eviction moratorium on residential evictions until October 31, 2020. The order also allocated $650,000 for Community Action Agencies to improve staffing and administration of rental assistance programs and $5 million to establish the Foreclosure Prevention Program.
Governor Ducey announced $5 million in new funding as a part of Arizona Department of Housing’s (ADOH) Rental Eviction Prevention Assistance Program to help Arizonans struggling to pay rent due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Rental assistance is available to renters whose primary residence is in Arizona and who have seen a reduction in income (that when annualized does not exceed 100% of the area’s median income) due to COVID-19.
The Arizona Department of Housing launched a one-time program to help keep low-income homeowners in their homes. The Homeowner Assistance Fund was established with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act and will help with mortgage payments and home-related expenses. While intended to prevent foreclosure, homeowners may also use the funds for past due utilities and internet services, property taxes, insurance, HOA fees and more.
Homeowners who have experienced financial hardship related to COVID-19 may work with ADOH counselors on their applications.
The U.S. Department of Treasury provided $492 million to the state of Arizona as part of a COVID-19 relief package. The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) was award $289 million to directly support large cities and counties for direct payments for rent, rental arrears, utilities, utility arrears, and other expenses related to housing stability incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DES will serve Apache, Cochise, Coconino, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, La Paz, Navajo, Santa Cruz, Pinal, Mohave and Yavapai counties. Residents in these counties may apply for housing and utilities assistance starting February 23, 2021.
The Save Our Home AZ (“SOHAZ”) Program offers Principal Reduction Assistance, Monthly Mortgage Subsidy Assistance for under and unemployed Arizonans and Second Lien Elimination Assistance to qualified Arizona homeowners. The program’s goal is to aid Arizona’s homeowners in avoiding foreclosure by assisting with mortgage affordability (a payment that does not exceed 31 percent of gross income) inclusive of property taxes and Homeowner’s Association (HOA) fees. Your lender's agreement to participate may be required, since mortgage assistance is provided directly to lenders on the homeowner’s behalf.
