LIBERTY MUTUAL INSURANCE LAUNCHES APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM IN ARIZONA

Company partners with the Arizona Commerce Authority and Arizona Department of Economic Security

PHOENIX, AZ (July 25, 2018)  In a ceremony held today at the Arizona State Capitol, Liberty Mutual Insurance announced its new Arizona Apprenticeship Program that it is administering in conjunction with the Arizona Commerce Authority and the Arizona Department of Economic Security.  The apprenticeship program is Liberty’s latest initiative in its effort to reach previously untapped talent pipelines and one that leverages Arizona’s database of over 200,000 apprentice candidates.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey commented: "Continuing investments in workforce training will help prepare Arizonans to find the right jobs.  We're pleased that Liberty Mutual will be contributing to this goal with their apprenticeship program, providing Arizonans with the tools for success in business and finance."

“We are excited to work with the State of Arizona on this unique program and by the prospect of the extensive pool of experienced employees we now have the opportunity to reach,” said Joe Kiley, Manager of Talent Acquisition for Liberty Mutual Insurance.  “Today we formally signed on our first three apprentices and I am pleased to welcome Austin, Braxton and Keith to the Liberty team.  We look forward to working closely with the state to identify more candidates for our field sales roles and the opportunity to use this nationally-recognized education and training program to raise awareness about the exciting careers offered by the insurance industry.”

The new apprentices will work in Liberty’s Scottsdale, AZ office in a year-long training program that includes: licensing in personal lines, life and health, product knowledge; policy quoting, phone and appointment skills; and concludes with a property and casualty license.  At the end of six months, the apprentices will be eligible for sales associate roles and at the successful completion of the full year, they will be qualified for a sales representative position.

“We appreciate the confidence Liberty Mutual has in our state to bring this pilot program--the first in the nation for the company--here. Arizona has the talent pool to provide Liberty Mutual with the candidates the company needs to make this program a success,” said Sandra Watson, President & CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “The program will be of great benefit to Arizonans seeking new opportunities by providing them with an excellent path to careers in the insurance industry.”

DES Director Michael Trailor said: “DES is eager to partner with Liberty Mutual and the Arizona Commerce Authority to continue expanding apprenticeship opportunities in Arizona. Our desire is that job seekers interested in business services will find success with this new program.”

The Registered Apprenticeship system of training is unique in that it is the only formal, structured, and nationally recognized education and training program available that combines the two most common forms of career and occupational learning: classroom instruction with on-the-job training.

The apprenticeship program is a natural fit with Liberty Mutual’s coaching-centric environment in which employees have the opportunity to constantly develop their skills and to move up or laterally within a function or seamlessly among different areas of the company.  All employees have access to classroom, eLearning and virtual instructor-led training. Informal and on-demand programs are available. This includes extensive courses in professional development as well as technical and insurance-related topics.
